The Interaction of the Refined and Popular Elements within Chinese Modern Literature

中国现代文学之雅俗互动 ,经历了几个阶段 :有以雅携俗的 ,有相克中相生的 ,有相辅而未必相成的 ,有善于融会而相得益彰的 ,有物极必反的 ,凡此种种都隐含着历史的深刻的经验与教训。有志于通俗文学创作的作家应学习中国历史与中国社会 ,学习中国文化传统 ,总结前人通俗文学创作的经验 。

The interaction of the refined and popular elements within Chinese modern literature went through the following stages: the refined boosting the popular; the refined and the popular giving birth while in opposition to each other; the refined and the popular not contributing to the success of though supplementing each other; the refined and the popular being merged and setting off each other; the refined turning to the popular or vice versa after reaching the extreme. All these different stages contain deep historical experience and lessons. Therefore, he who aspires for the creation of popular literature must learn Chinese history and society, get acquaintance with Chinese traditional culture and sum up the past generations' experiences of popular literary creation so as to form his own features or even system on the base of his full understanding of what he has to learn and of his actual literary creation.
