镇江地处长江南岸 ,是一座江南历史文化名城 ,但无论在物质生活、风俗习惯、语言、文化特征上明显带有北方的特征。这是因为自先秦至近代漫长的历史时期内 ,大量的北方移民不断地南下 。

Zhenjiang, located on the southern bank of the Yangtze River, is a famous historic city. Yet it has remarkable northern characteristics in material life, customs, language and culture because a large number of migrants had been keeping on moving in from the North since Qin Dynasty, which had great influence on Zhenjiang's social life, especially on its economic development.
