摘要
It is all very well for Jeremy Harmer (2000) to write critically of Phillipson's (1999) review of Crystal(1997a), but I'm afraid this vituperative response manages to skate over issues of real concern which deserve more serious treatment:above all,the question of how we,as language professionals,perceive learning other languages as well as teaching Eng-lish.
