The readings of meter show smaller than usual, even negative sometimes, when measuring on-site the dielectric loss of small capacitive objects such as potential transformer and capacitive bushing. This paper gives the reasons and the solutions. It is suggested that when making field measurement of the dielectric loss of such objects, the instrument be connected to the flange or the base of the object to be earthed.
