Mrs. Wang in A Red Mansion puts her niece Wang Xi-feng in an important position to take care of the family affairs in the Jias' home, and actually she acts as gravedigger in the Jias. She is a virtuous daughter-in-law with the traditional feudal ideas and a kind mother. But, for the unique Bao Yu she becomes a Buddhist to punish 'evil spirits' and finally a destroyer of the Jias. If Cao Xue-qin had finished his masterpiece, Mrs. Wang, who is speechless and has her own judgment, would have been the head of the family to ruin the love between Jia Bao-yu and Lin Dai-yu.
