A Comparative Study of the Three Versions of Spending the Night on the Jiande River

《宿建德江》是唐人诗歌中描述羁旅之愁的名篇。全诗在显形结构方面虽没有运用任何衔接手段,但内里意思却极为连贯,浑然一体。在这首诗的三个英译本中,只有张庭深和BruceM.Wilson的合译本透彻理解了原文的内含意义,并在译文中很好的实现了连贯,译出了原诗的神韵和意境。

Spending the Night on the Jiande River is a famous poem about the lonliness of a wanderer in the Dang Dynasty. The poem is very coherent in meaning despite the lack of cohesive devices. Among the three English versions of this poem, the version by Zhang Tingshen and Bruce M. Wilson outdoes the other two in its realization of coherence of the intrinsic meaning and better conveys the charm and imagery of the original poem.
