The Wide View of Historical Materials : XIE Guozhen's Understanding of the Importance of the Notes during the Ming and Qing Dynasties

历史学家谢国桢在明清文献的长期研究中 ,较早地发现明清笔记小说类文献对明清社会史研究的价值 ,认为它是对正史材料的重要补充 ,从而拓宽了传统史料的界域和范围。在这种观念的指导下 ,谢国桢长期致力于明清笔记小说的搜集和介绍 ,在实践过程中逐渐升华出关于其价值、内容分类和发展阶段的理论 ,还提出了可行的明清笔记小说的整理计划并亲自付诸实施。

As a historian, XIE Guozhen found the importance of notes style literature to the study of social histories in the Ming and Qing Dynasties earlier. He considered that it was important supplement to the materials on official history, which thereby extended the range of traditional historical materials. With the guidance of this concept , he bended himself to collecting and introducing of notes . He constructed the theories of the importance, the content classification and the development phase gradually. He also made a plan to coordinate notes and brought it into effect, all of which were the important parts of XIE Guozhen's historical thoughts and practice.
