The paper is to focus on pragmatic competence in a second language. Firstly, the paper describes the two components of pragmatic competence in a second language. Secondly, an analysis on the failure of lacking the component is made, and then, based on the analysis, the nature and acquisition of pragmatic competence in a second language are concluded.
