Launch Vehicle LM-2D

长征二号丁运载火箭是新研制的一种二级火箭,已成功地将我国第二代返囱式科学试验卫星送入预定轨道。本文将重点介绍该火箭的总体设计、各系统组成以及首发飞行试验结果。

Long March 2D is a newly developed two-stage launch vehicle. Designed on the basis of Long March 4's first two stages, the LM-2D is the most powerful one among China's two-stage launch vehicles. The high payload capacity is achieved mainly through enlarging the tanks and increasing the thrust of engines in its first stage. Other features of the rocket include precise orbit insertion, high reliability and improved cost-effectiveness. The launch vehicle successfully made its maiden flight on Aug. 9 from Jiu'quan Satellite Launch Center in Gansu Province, putting China's first second-generation recoverable satellite into a projected orbit. In this paper, a description on its system design, system composition and maiden flight result is presented by Mr. Sun Jingliang, the general designer of the vehicle.
