释“尤”

Note on the Word YOU

通过考释“尤”字的甲骨文形体 ,笔者认为“尤”字“从又”(“又”即手状 ) ,并在“又”字上方的手指处加一短横划。“尤”字中的短横划为指事符号 ,“尤”字属于指事字。“尤”字的字形义指手指上有肉瘤。“尤”的本义为手指上的黑色肉瘤 ,为名词 ,“”为“尤”字的增形孳乳字。“无尤”一词在卜辞和先秦典籍里均用如“无灾异”、“无不利”之义。

This paper explains the form meaning of jiaguwen YOU(尤) with a conclusion that the character YOU(尤) contains the component of YOU(又) , which is like a hand, and adds a short line on the finger in the upper part of YOU(又). The short line in the character YOU(尤) functions as a symbol for being self-explanatory, so YOU(尤) belongs to the self-explanatory character. The form meaning of YOU(尤) is the finger with a sarcoma. The original meaning of word YOU(尤) is the black sarcoma on the finger, and YOU(尤) is used as a noun. The character YOU() develops from YOU(尤).The phrase WU YOU(无尤) in Buci and pre-Qin classics means 'have no disaster' or 'without disadvantage'.
