莆田“文献名邦”称誉由来考

A Textual Research on the Origin of the Honorary Title of Putian “Famous Town of Culture”

通过对大量历史资料的分析考证,认为宋代是莆田古代历史上文化教育最辉煌的时期。指出莆田“文献名邦”的誉称源于宋代。而“文献名邦”碑坊建于明万历二十六年(1598)。

Through textual research by means of a profusion of historical data, this paper holds that Song Dynasty is the prime of culture and education in Putian ancient history and that the honorary title of Putian 'Famous Town of Culture' originated from Song Dynasty. The stone tablet with inscription 'Famous Town of Culture' was set up in the 26th year of the Wanli reign(1598).
