On Register and Translation

语场指语言发生的环境 ;语式指语言交际的渠道或媒介 ;语旨指参与者之间的关系。文章从语场、语式和语旨三方面探讨了它们对翻译的指导作用 ,并指出在翻译过程中 ,译者必须注意使译文能表现原文的语域特征 ,能恰当地表达原文所赖以产生的情景语境 。

Field refers to language environment; Mode refers to the channel or medium of the language communication and tenor refers to the relationship among the participants. This paper discusses the instructive role of register on translation from the aspects of field, mode and tenor. It also points out that the translator should ensure the representation of the register features of the source text in the target text, so that the target text can embody the situational context, from which the source text comes, and register equivalence can be realized.
