English figurative words and expressions fall into three categories according to the structure. They are the complete type, the incomplete type and the mono-type. Based on an analysis of the formation and features of the figurative words and expressions, we explore the approaches to translating them into Chinese, which contributes to a better understanding of their connotations and rhetorical features.
