The novel Notes to A Journey to the West (xi you bu) by Dong Shuo and the teleplay Big Talk on A Journey to the West (da hua xi you) acted by the Hong Kong film star Zhou Xing-chi are both sequels of the Chinese classic A Journey to the West. These sequels have special values because they deconstruct their earlier work, the classic, especially its plot, theme and language. As is held in this paper, the deconstructive ideas in Big Talk on A Journey to the West are the production of the postmodernist thoughts in modern society, while those in Notes to A Journey to the West are the result of historical and religious reasons. The deconstructive ideas contained in A Journey to the West itself, and the antinomy of the original and its sequels decide that A Journey to the West is to be chosen as the object for deconstruction.
