本文以一次有关教材在外语学习过程中的作用和使用情况的问巷调查为基础，分析外语教材在外语教学过程中应有的地位和作用，讨论在中国的特殊语言环境中，外语教材的编写、使用的原则和方法。

Drawing on a questionnaire based survey of the role of textbooks in the learning and teaching of a foreign language in Chinese universities, the authors of this paper discuss the nature of textbooks and their roles in the process of learning a foreign language for Chinese learners. The paper also touches upon issues concerning the principles and methodology of foreign language textbook writing in the Chinese context.
