但丁是中世纪文化思想的一位集大成者。但是,但丁的诗学思想与奥古斯丁、托马斯·阿奎那等中世纪神学思想家立足于神学、立足于彼岸世界的思想理论不同,其更多地是立足于现世社会人生。而对于现世的关注这正是人文主义之最为基本的价值取向。从根本上来讲,但丁已突破或者说脱离了中世纪的神学思想体系;因而,其诗学理论呈现出极其明显的近代性特征。
Dante is a great thinker of the Middle Ages. However, unlike such theological thinkers as St. Augustine and Thomas Aquinas, who based their thinking on theology and after-world, Dante based his thinking on this-world, which is an essential concern for the humanists. In the final analysis, Dante's poetics has got beyond the thinking mode of the Middle Ages, showing a clear tendency of modernity.
