UML can visually model the whole developing process of the software application systems. Accordingly a software system that owns clear architecture and can satisfy the customer better is achieved. The development of electronic commerce has a high demand for the design of the electronic commerce system software. This paper firstly describes the basic concepts and modeling process of UML. Then the characteristics and functions of electronic commerce systems are discussed. Finally, an example which applies UML into modeling EC systems is demonstrated.
