The horizontal foundation modulus is an important parameter in calculating the deformation of deep excavation,the stability of retaining structures,the displacement and internal forces of a pile under the action of a horizontal load.The horizontal modulus is hard to estimate owing to some technical impediments.This paper discusses the major influencing factors on the horizontal foundation modulus and evaluates different detective methods.
