英语应用能力是英语教学的目的和要求,作者认为许多学习者的英语应用能力总是得不到有效的提高,主要与学习者的心理词汇有密切的关系。心理词汇指储存在学习者内心的一个统一的词汇,它对提高学习者的英语应用能力作用很大,故必须加强对学生心理词汇的研究与教学应用。

English practical competence is one of the most important requirements in English teaching. But some learners' English practical competence can not be improved effectively. The main reason is related to the learners' mental lexicon closely. Mental lexicon is a kind of vocabularies which are stored in the learners' mind. It helps to improve the learners' English practical competence a lot. Furthermore, the author argues that it is essential for the teachers to focus on the research and teaching of English practical competence.
