In the history of both Chinese and English literature, Shen Congwen and Thomas Hardy are both the outstanding spokesman of their respective literature. My essay is to deal with the rustic spirit in terms of human nature exploration and style in their works, so as to touch the latent mental coincidence between Shen Congwen and Thomas Hardy.
