It is the orientation of the technical rebuilding in cylinder machine to design a new type of cylinder vat which both can keep merits ol traditional vat former and overcome some of its defects.This article introduces the design principle of lateral flow vat with adjustable curved opening, its structure, its adjustment and control, and its application.For more than eight years, productive practice showed that this cylinder vat has the advantages as follows i simple and compact structure, flexible adjustment and easy operation, stable basis weight and good formation of sheet, small tension ratio of machine to cross direction.It is not only applicable to particular products with small tension ratio of machine direction to cross direction or high cross strength but also general products.Lateral flow vat with adjustable curved opening provides new choice for the technical rebuilding of cylinder machine. Suggestions for the further research and design are also given.
