The Sui manuscript Chu Shi Song was a valuable work held in the collection of the Qing Office of the Palace Household, from which it was taken by Emperor Puyi during his period of tutelary rule and now after 80 years has been returned to the Palace Museum' s collection. The event has attracted a great deal of popular interest. This article examines the calligraphic significance of the work and briefly discusses the historical background and the military events referred to in the text - the expeditionary campaign by the Eastern Han royalist Deng Zhi against the Qiang tribes. This article provides valuable research for art scholars.
