SYSTEMATICS ON THE GENUS PRORHINOTERMES SILVESTRI (ISOPTERA: RHINOTERMITIDAE:PRORHINOTERMITINAE) FROM CHINA

原鼻白蚁属(Prorhinotermes Silvestri, 1909)广布于全球的热带和亚热带地区,长期来被公认作为一个岛屿分布属,已知16种。近年来,对此属的额腺化学分析,进一步确立了这个属由Quenneday et Deligne(1975)建立单属亚科Prorhinotermitinae的进化位置。 我国已知记录为2种,本文记述2新种。海南原鼻白蚁Prorhinotermes hainanen-sis新种是据海南省崖县标本经同美国自然历史博物馆保存的台湾省兰屿的模式标本核对后而定名的;崖县标本曾被认为是P, japonicus(Holmgren)。奇丽原鼻白蚁P.

The genus Prorhinotermes in China is restricted to Taiwan Province, Hainan Province and Xisha Islands. Only two species P. japonicus (Holmgren) and P. xishaensis Li et Tsai were so far reported. In this paper, two species are described as new to science. P. spectabilis SP- n. is discovered from Yunnan Province which is the second report of the occurrence of the Prorhinotermes from the interior mainland about 400 kilometre from the sea-coast. P. hainanensis SP- n. from Hainan Province was considered as the same species P. japonicus (Holmgren). According do cotype from A. M. N. H., P. japonicus (Holmgren) is redescribed.Key to species of Prorhinotermes from China (soldier)1. Head-capsule ovalis, broadest near middle. Head-capsule trapezoideus, broadest near postero-lateral corner. 2. Head seen in profile nearly straight in dorsal margin. (Taiwan Province). Apex of labrurr almost straight or slight concave (vs. roundly pointed apex). 2. Inner margin of mandibles nearly straight (vs. nearly incurved). 3. Posterior margin of pronotum straight in the middle (vs. with a slight concavity in the middle).Type locality: Ya Xian (18.°N, 109.°5'E), Hainan Province Soldiers (holotype and paraiypes) and workers from Type Series (1. No, E 2059), collected by Ping, July 15, 1961 in tree Tamarindus indica. Paratype series (I. No, E4533, 2084, 2095, 8162) in tree Casuarina equisetijolia etc., locality as I. No. E2059,Prorhinotermes spectabilis sp. nov.The soldier of the new species can be separated from P. tibiaoensiformi Ahmad from Thailand, it differs as follows: 1. Eyes indistinct, (vs. distinct) 2. Mead seen in profile concave after frontal area (vs. nearly straight after frontal area (vs. nearly straight after frontal area), 3. Pronotum is indistinctly notched anteriorly in the middle (vs. distinctly notched).Type locality: Hekou Yaozu Zizhixian (22.°4'N. 103.°9'E), Yunnan Province. Soldiers (holotype and paratype) from Type Series (I. No. E799). Collected by-Ping, Apr. 11,1956 in tree Delonix regia. (mixed with Schedorhinoiermes sp.)All measurements are in millimeters.
