In order to investigate the role of Presenilin protein on synaptic plasticity, we used the model of neuromuscular junction in larvae of Drosophila. We found that the number of varicosities in Psn s3 mutants decreased significantly and the decrease was enhanced when we raised the temperature. Our results indicate that Presenilin proteins are involved in the formation and plasticity of synapses, which appears to affect the learning and memory. Furthermore, the temperature may play a role in maintaining the conformation and the function of mutated Presenilin protein.
