Further Discussion on the Origin of the Disposal Construction

汉语处置式的产生与演变经历了“连动式>工具式>广义处置式>狭义处置式>致使义处置式”这样的一个连续的发展过程。在这个演变过程中有两种句法演变的机制发生过作用:由连动式到工具式以及由工具式到广义处置式的演变是重新分析的结果,而由广义处置式到狭义处置式以及由广义/狭义处置式到致使义处置式的演变是扩展的产物。

Two propositions are put forward on the origin and evolution of the disposal construction in Chinese in this paper: (i) The disposal constructions derive from such successive processes as ' the serial verb construction (SVC) > the instrumental construction (IC) > the disposal construction in the broad sense (DCIBS) > the disposal construction in the strict sense (DCISS) > the causative disposal construction (CDC) ' . (ii)There are two kinds of mechanisms Which are responsible for the emergence and evolution of the disposal constructions, that is , one is reanalysis which is the mechanism of bath change from SVC to IC and development from IC to DCIBS , the other one is extension which is that of development bath from DCIBS to DCISS and from DCIBS /DCISS to CDC .
