This paper first introduces a key technique—encryption and decryption algorithm in a conditional access system (CAS). Discussions over the principle and architecture of CAS in digital video broadcasting (DVB) are then carried out. Software implementation of DVB set-top-boxes with conditional access is analyzed in detail, and test results are given. Finally, the future prospect of CAS applications is outlined.
