This paper addresses the contradictions between the basic principle of liberalism and the finiteness of the earth, and analyzes Garrett Hardin's“lifeboat ethics” and Hisataka Kato's “the earth totalitarianism”, From this the author draws the conclusion that environmental ethics challenges liberalism, and puts forward that it is necessary to limit the freedom and to give environmental justice over the freedom on environmental problems.
