On Zhou En-lai's Contributions to the City Construction of Beijing

周恩来在主持政府的工作中 ,非常重视首都北京的城市建设。他从实际出发 ,在改造旧北京、建设新北京 ,加强北京城市总体规划以及保护北京城的历史文物及古迹等方面 ,做出了一系列指示 ,并提出了北京城市建设要遵循“实用、经济、美观”的原则 ,为北京城市建设作出了不可磨灭的贡献。

Premier Zhou En-lai attached much importance to the city construction of Beijing in his governmental work. He gave a series of instructions to rebuild old Beijing and construct a new one,to reinforce the general programming and to protect the cultural relics and historic sites of Beijing. He put forward the three principles of practicality,economy and beauty to guide Beijings city construction,and made indelible contributions to the city construction of Beijing.
