On the US Policy toward Japan around the 1930s

20世纪30年代前后的美日关系一直处于激烈的争斗之中,美国在日本的挑战面前,一直是退让、妥协、犹豫不决,尽量避免同日本发生直接冲突。正是由于美国对日政策的无所作为,助长了日本政府的侵略气焰,并让美国付出了惨重的代价。因此,这一时期美国的对日政策是美国外交政策中的一大败笔。

Around the 1930s, the US-Japan relation was a heated struggle. Facing the challenges from Japan, US was irresolute and made concessions or compromised to avoid any confrontation with Japan. This appeasement policy helped to whet the aggressive ambition of the Japanese Government, for which USA paid heavily. Thus, the US policy toward Japan in this period is a total failure in the US foreign policy.
