“Writing for discontentment” is one of the most characteristics of Chinese literary and artistic creation motives. Though scholars and intellectuals typical throughout the history defined it in many different ways, they all emphasized an author's emotional surge in suffering and frustration, which had particular effects on his literary creation. The philosophic meaning of ”writing for discontentment” is humanity's suffering consciousness and transcendence consciousness, with which writers transmit their own experience of suffering with their pens, and transcend their own hardships and awaken common people, so as to show perceptually human's “race nature”. The process is of a writer's pains as well as of his gaining aesthetic freedom.
