摘要
The Tang period tombs discovered at Xingyuan in Yanshi, Henan, total 67, of which 37 are dated. These graves are perfect in condition. Most of them belong to the middle and late Tangperiod. The definitely known tomb-owners were officials no higher than the sixth rank. The excavation report is well organized, and the material is published in detail. The tombs are in a common cemetery,belong to the Li, Song, Cui and other families, and show clear relation in generation and affinity. In the historical documents of the Tang Dynasty, there are rare records on the mourning institution of officials from the sixth to the ninth ranks, and even still little evidence on that of the common people. As burials largely of lower-rank officials and common people, the tombs under discussion provide invaluable data for studying the whole aspect of society in the Tang period.
