A Comparative Study of Four Translated Versions of Othello of Their Cross-Cultural Consciousness

翻译对于文化交流的巨大作用现已成不争的共识。半个多世纪以前翻译莎剧《奥赛罗》的四大翻译家曹未风、孙大雨、梁实秋、朱生豪对于源语的典故与形象、诅咒发誓语和称谓语的处理也体现了他们朴素的跨文化交际意识。他们不拘一法,或直译,或转换意象,或中立变通。

It is a common understanding that translating plays an important role in cultural communication. The ways in which the four translators,CAO Wei-feng, SUN Da-yu, LIANG Shi-qiu and ZHU Sheng-hao, dealt with the allusions and images, curses and titles illustrate their simple and natural consciousness of cross-cultural communication. They did not confine themselves to a particular way of transplanting, using various methods such as literal translating, changing images or impartial accommodating.
