Current Approaches to the Study of Topic Construction: A Critical Assessment

本文回顾了三十余年来国内外语言学界众多学者对话题结构的研究 ,对他们各自的观点从几个不同的角度进行了比较 ,在此基础上 ,就话题结构的基本定性问题提出了一些质疑。作者认为 ,话题研究要进一步深入 ,统一对这一结构的定义应是当务之急。

This article offers a critical review of Chinese and international scholarly literature on topic construction, published over the past three decades. Having made a multi-angled comparison of the diverse perspectives on the subject currently in circulation, the author raises questions about the meaning of the very concept topic, and calls for interested scholars to reach an agreement on its definition as the sine qua non for making further progress in this subject area.
