The Dilemma Facing the "New Negro" Writers and the Dual Character of the Harlem Renaissance

哈莱姆文艺复兴时期 ,讴歌“新黑人”、凸显种族文学是黑人文学的主旋律 ,然而 ,黑人作家在阐明黑人身份及处理黑人文化和主流文化之间的关系等方面却遇到了难题。本文通过对几位主要作家及其作品的具体评析 ,指出他们的两难抉择 ,并阐明哈莱姆文艺复兴的二重性。

In celebrating the 'New Negro' and promoting African-American literature, writers of the Harlem Renaissance often found themselves confronted with a predicament when they pondered what Black identity to construct and how to situate the Black culture vis-à-vis the mainstream American culture. This paper explores the dilemma these writers faced in reference to their representative works, and goes on to expound further what it sees as a dual character of the Harlem Renaissance as a whole.
