沈家本试图通过晚清的法律改革,在体制上改变君王驭民的桎桔,同时在法律的实施上,废除在中国历史上已维持几千年的各类酷刑,在中国近代法制建设中的影响是极其深远的,它虽然未能取得人权上的完全成功,但为人权法的崛起以及晚清人权的变化起了一定的作用。

In order to institute reforms in royal system which tightly ruled the subjects, shen Jiaben attempted to amend some laws in the late QIng Dynasty. He abolished some savage penalties enforced for Several thousand years, which made a pro- found influence on the construction of legal system in modern China. Although the reform was ont very successful, it somewhat paved the way to laws of human rights and the improvement of human rights in the late Qing dynasty
