The Profusulinella fauna described in this paper was collected by the authors in the spring of 2002 from the Upper Carboniferous Huanglong Formation in Shanghang, Fujian Province. The fusulinids described and illustrated here comprise 17 specise referred to 4 genera. According to the geographical distribution and vertical variation of fusulinid fossils in the strata, they may be grouped in ascending order into one zone with two subzones as follows: Profusulinella Zone 1) Profusulinella staffellaeformis Subzone This subzone is confind to Beds 2—8 of the Shanghang section, with a thickness of 67.94 m. The population under Profusulinella is characterized by small shell and form ratio, less slightly spetal fluting, with a present chomata. 2) Profusulinella wangyui Eofusulina triangula Subzone This subzone is confind to Beds 9—11 of the Shanghang section, with a thickness of 20.03 m. The population under Profusulinella is characterized by larger shell and form ratio, rather strongly spetal fluting. The Profusulinella zone can be correlated with the Profusulinella zone or Profusulinella parva zone of South, North, Northwest in China. It is most probably equivalent to the same zone in Europe and America. It bears a stong resemblance to the Upper Carboniferous Lower Dalan Stage of China and the Upper Bashkirian-Lower Moscovian of the international stratigraphic chart.
