孔子“攻乎异端”辨疑

The Meanings of Confucius′s "the Study to Dissenters′ Vies to the Exclusion of Others′ Views

"攻乎异端,斯害也已"一语,乃是孔子教导弟子如何树立正确的修身治学态度,如何对待异己之学,对后世影响甚巨。历代诸家对此语之阐析多失之偏颇,甚至以之济私覆短,贻害无穷。今略举六家观点逐一辨析之,以便全面完整地把握孔子的微言大义。

By saying that 'the study of dissenters′ views without criticism is detrimental to oneself', Confucius intended to teach his students to establish the correct attitude towards views which were different from his own in the hope that they can cultivate their own moral character and conduct academic studies in a correct way. His view has farreaching influence on people for many generations to come. However, many scholars have interpreted this sentence in a wrong way to the extent that they used this as an excuse to cover up their own mistakes. Such interpretations are really harmful to people. In this article, six interpretations are cited and criticized in order that a better understanding of Confucius's saying can be gained.
