混沌的现代性——对中国现代文学思潮总体特征的一种解读

Confused Modernity-An Interpretation of the General Characteristics of Modern Chinese Literature

现代性视野中的现代文学史叙述,要求将其视为一种“中国化的现代性”展开的方式。中国现代文学思潮的现代性特征表现为:首先是错位的现代性前提,即与西方现代性的“分化”特征不同,中国现代性追求的恰恰是政治、道德、审美等一切层面与力量的“统一”;其次是误读的现代性资源,即中国现代知识界对西方现代性的误读、误植与误用。其三是暧昧的现代性矛盾,既表现在现代性与前现代性之间,也表现在现代性内部;其四是混浊的现代性哲学,其主要表现就是理性主义与非理性主义的混浊,在深层则表现为一种含混的整体思维与重统一而回避对立的“中和性”。

In the perspective of modernity, the narration of modern Chinese literary history should be unfolded as ' modernity with Chinese characteristics' , which are as follows: First, its premise of modernity is misplaced. In contrast with the fragmentation in western modernity, the Chinese counterpart quests for the unity of forces in politics, morality, esthetics, etc. Second, it mistakes the western resources of modernity. The Chinese intelligentsia misreads, misplaces and misuses the western modernity. Third, its modernity is ambivalent. The ambivalence can be found both in and outside its modernity. Last, its philosophy of modernity is confusing. Rationalism and irra- tionalism are mixed up, which results in a confused holist thinking-a neutrality with stress on unity and an avoidance of polarity.
