Synthesis of dyes with different physical properties was described, especially the preparation of macromolecular colorants by using the sol-gel method. The applications of organic dyes and its progress as photoelectrical materials were reviewed, the prospect trend of photoelectrical functional organic dyes was evaluated and discussed.
