Lyme disease is a zoonose epidemic widely in the provinces in North China. The pathogenic agent of the disease is the spirochete Borrelia burgdoferi . Lyme disease causes various disorders of skin, heart, arthroses and nerve system and seriously deteriorates healthy life. The present paper reviews the research advancement in the morphology, subspecies classification, biochemical characteristics, vectors and animal hosts of Borrelia burgdoferi .
