Zhao Ruyu, the only prime minister from the imperial family of the Song Dynasty, was a genius in the imperial family. Up till now, few results from his studies have come to the public in the field of the history of the Song Dynasty. A comprehensive investigation of his service in Fujian, his friendship with Fujian scholars and the relationship of his descendents to Fujian shows that his evaluation by the compiler of The History of the Song Dynasty tallies with the historical facts. Zhao Ruyu was really an outstanding representative of 'the imperial family of the Song Dynasty' who 'got established with his own efforts'.
