Liu Houcun's painting poems best illustrate his literary character,providing us with the earliest and also the most vivid memories of the ancient paintings that have long been lost. Liu has a special fondness for scenery paintings,a unique taste for bird-and-flower paintings;and yet,he dedicates most of poems to figure paintings. In addition,he composes quite a number of painting-epilogues,which,if read together with his painting poems,well express the poet's deep understanding of painting.
