The development history of the safety engineering discipline in colleges and universities in China was briefly introduced. Taking the teaching practice in NCIST for instance, the teaching superiority and existing problems in establishing safety engineering discipline in colleges and universities under the administration of ministries and committees were fully analyzed. Specific suggestions appropriate to this kind of school and adapting to current era were made for the reference of colleagues.
