综述了宽带光纤通信网的发展动态。首先说明光纤通信网络与交换是光纤通信研究的重要领域之一。接着对同步光纤通信网、宽带综合业务数字网(BISDN)与异步转移模式(ATM)、宽带光纤局城网与城城网、Gbit/s级试验网等进行综述。最后简述一种新型光纤通信局域网。

The development of broadband optical communication networks is overviewed. It is pointed out that networks and switching are important areas of the optical communication research. Synchronous optical communication network, broadband integrated services digital network and asynchronous transfer mode, broadband optical local area network and metropolitan area network and Gb/s test beds are presented respectively. A new type of optical fiber local area network is introduced.
