摘要
Xiangshan people enjoyed a long history of emigrating abroad.It can be dated back as far as the Southern Song Dynasty.Before1840.those emigrants were not in large scale and the reasons and ways were various.Though they might go to different parts of the world,their destinations were mainly focused on Southeast Asia.According to limited historical archives,they came fromdifferent walks of life but most of themwere merchants and coolies.Through research,their historical traces were left to the present world in the development of China’s relations with the outside world.
