'First-class firms go to Shanghai, and third-class just do manufacturing for exports.' That is a saying popular among private enterprise owners in Zhejiang Province. As other businessmen who move from Zhejiang to Shanghai to find big opportunities, Wang Junyao, chairman of Shanghai Chamber of Zhejiang Businessmen (SCZB), hopes he could have a boarder view and do big business in the cosmopolis. Unlike other low-tone Zhejiang businessmen having their feet planted on the ground, Wang has been active in society and high-profile since he took risk to contract an airline a few years ago.
To many people, Wang has been regarded as 'the other kind of Zhejiang businessmen.' Now he is elected as the chairman of SCZB, however, it may mean a change of the outlook of his fellow businessmen and they may have come to identify themselves with him to an extent. What is worth our attention is: Will Wang's open character and business thinking different from other Zhejiang businessmen become 'infective' ? How do the group shape a new image? How do they go out of the limited environment? In the sense, Wang's activities are some experiments.
