徐渭是晚明进步思想的前驱,是一位伟大的艺术家。他论书作字强调"独抒性灵"又讲究技巧,既重"警惕"功夫又崇尚任性之自然,形成了独具特色的雅俗、古今、姿媚观。

Xu Wei, a forerunner of progressive thinking in late Ming Dynasty, was a great artist. He not only focused on expressing his own temperament, but also on technique; not only emphasized rigorousness, but nature. He formed unique view of refinement and popularity, view of ancientry and modernism, and view of charming posture.
