Under the particular historical backgroud of the postwar period,intermediate novels which is between the pure literature and the popular literature appeared in the Japanese literary world. Kawabata Yasunari is one of the outstanding guidons. His intermediate novels such as Dancer , The Sound of the Mountain, Tokyoite are excellent and characteristic works .The reasons for these intermediate novels is that he perhaps wanted to carry out his esteemed friend's poetic spirit .
