中国共产党人通过坚持走社会主义道路以实现中华民族“大同、小康”之社会理想 ,其间经历了艰难的探索。邓小平在 1 979年首次提出“小康”奋斗目标后 ,具体阐述了小康社会的内涵 ,描绘出了小康社会的发展蓝图 ,从而形成了比较系统的小康社会思想体系。全面建设小康社会的奋斗目标应当是一个比较富裕、相对平衡、更加和谐、全面发展的社会状态。党的十六大提出了全面建设小康社会的奋斗目标 ,从经济、政治、文化、生态等方面 ,深化了小康社会的历史主题 ,拓展了小康社会的历史概念和当代内涵。

CPC,adhering to socialism,really confronted with so many difficulties in its efforts to make true the ideal to realize a 'Great?Harmony-and?Well-off' society in China.In 1979,Deng Xiaoping set a goal of the realization of a 'Well-off' society for Chinese the first time and had a detailed description about what a Chinese 'Well-off' society was, hence the formation of his systematic thoughts on 'Well-off' society. Here is Deng's idea of a'Well-off' society,a society that is rich,balanced in development,harmonic,and comprehensively developed.As the development of Deng's thoughts on 'Well-off' society,the goal set by CPC's Central Committee in the 16th National Congress was to construct a comprehensive well-off society,thus broadening the connotation of Deng's thoughts on 'Well-off' society.
