韦尔奇后悔错看了中国市场,而伊梅尔特则遗憾不能使在华业务发展更快。
GE's dancing rhythm is changing from waltz to polka in China. GE's business is expanding tremendously. In the first quarter of this year, GE set up a joint venture of gas turbine services, announced a partnership with China Auto Technology Research Center, and began to build its first water processing plant in China. Recently the International Olympic Committee appointed GE one of the top sponsors for 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. GE is also very actively involved in China's huge construction projects, such as Three Gorge Project and Gas Transfer from West to East Project.
However, GE took a different attitude of waiting in China in the last decade. At that period GE was much more active in India than China. Though investing a lot, little result was achieved in India. What makes GE to change its attitude towards China is her market and quick growth as well as China's business environment. GE has realized that its performance is closely related with Chinese market and cannot tolerate lagging behind its rivals.
GE has set its new targets in China: sales revenue is US$5 billion and procurement from China is US$5 billion in 2005. GE is focusing on ,several markets, such as aviation, medical care, clean power supply and, particularly, consumer financing markets.
